What do we say about God the Creator?
Every creed begins in the same place: God made everything. Before light, before land, before you, God spoke, and it was good. Today you'll look at the world as something made on purpose.

- Genesis 1:1–2. In the beginning, God creates the heavens and the earth. Before anything has shape, a wind from God moves over the dark waters.
- Genesis 1:27. God creates human beings, male and female, in God's own image.
- Genesis 1:31. God looks at everything God has made and calls it very good.
The first part of both creeds
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
Words to know
- Creator. What the first part of every creed calls God. Before anything else, the creeds say who made everything, and that it matters.
- Sabbath. The seventh day, when God rested and blessed rest. Rest isn't laziness. It's a gift God built into creation.
- Image. What every human is made in, according to Genesis 1:27. Every person you meet carries God's image. That's why every person has dignity.
- Good. The word God says over creation again and again in Genesis 1. The world is not an accident or a mistake. God called it very good.
- Steward. Someone who takes care of what belongs to another, like we care for God's creation. Luther's Small Catechism says God gives us everything we need. Stewards protect it and share it.
- Stars. Made on the fourth day, along with the sun and moon. Ancient people often worshiped the stars. Genesis says they're simply things God made.
