Where the words come from

The catechism wording in Match Meanings comes from a 1921 English translation of Luther's Small Catechism. It is in the public domain, so anyone may use it. The Law or Gospel and Order the Events exercises were written for this site.

  • The six parts and the daily prayers follow Luther's Small Catechism from 1529. Read the whole catechism at Digital Lutheran Church.
  • Luther's catechisms and the Augsburg Confession are in a book called The Book of Concord, first printed in 1580.
  • The dates in Order the Events follow standard histories of Luther's life.
