Sunday Spotter
Sixteen things to watch and listen for during worship. Tap a square when you spot one, and tap it again to find out what it means. Four in a row is a line.
For parents and leaders
Why bingo in church, and how to use it well.
Worship has a shape: Gathering, Word, Meal, Sending. Most of what a newcomer finds confusing is in plain sight, it just goes by without a name. Sunday Spotter gives the names. A learner who has spotted the Kyrie three Sundays running will know what it is for life.
Every person who opens this page gets a different card, so two kids in one pew are not racing for the same squares. Tapping a square and reading its note takes about ten seconds. The notes link to Church Words and to What to Expect at Church for the longer version.
"Print cards" prints two blank cards with the key, for a class or for anyone who would rather not hold a phone in worship. Ask learners to bring the card back and talk about one square. Ask: which square surprised you? Which one do you want to ask the pastor about?
Not every church does every square every week. Some squares are about Communion, which some congregations have every Sunday and some do not. That is part of the learning too.
